Queenwood's Golf Course

Club  I  Course Team

David Kidd, who had come to immediate international renown for his work at Bandon Dunes, Oregon, was chosen by to be the course architect based on his commitment to “live on the golf course” during the crucial construction period.

Work commenced on shaping and building the course, continuing through the winter of 2000 (the wettest on record in Surrey). The horrendous weather conditions didn‘t deter the team and the course opened to Queenwood‘s members in October of 2001. Meanwhile, construction of the impressive clubhouse continued, opening in May of 2002.

Further additions have been made to the course since Queenwood‘s opening. Significant areas are now covered with gorse and broom, and several more heather-capped bunkers have been added, developing the general heathland theme of Queenwood. The objective for Queenwood was to replicate many of the traditional features of the classic Surrey courses, as well as incorporating modern technology to create a totally unique golfing experience.

The result is a course with a traditional feel, yet with the very best up-to-date grass cultivars producing ‘tight turf” conditions - a prerequisite of traditional heathland golf.
